The Philips Dam
Panorama 1 of 28
The Philips Dam works in unison with other Deltaworks projects to control flooding in the Netherlands, but it also serves another important role. Another Deltawork, The Oosterschelde Barrier, reduced the surface area of the Eastern Scheldt Estuary (Oosterschelde), and the Philips Dam helped restore nearby salt marshes and mud flats as well as oyster farming in the region.
The Philips Dam and the associated Krammer Locks were completed in 1984 and 1987, respectively. They were built on an artificial island that was completed in 1978.
