Grossinger’s Pool

Panorama 1 of 1

The spectacular abandoned pool at the fabled Grossinger’s Resort in New York’s Catskill Mountains. In its heyday, celebrities like singer Eddie Fisher, boxer Rocky Marciano, and countless others were regulars at the resort. In addition, Grossinger’s was the inspiration for the film Dirty Dancing and the hotel chain Holiday Inn, as well as the first ski resort to use artificial snow.

I have had to good fortune to see this pool in person 3 times over the years and the rest of the Grossingers complex and most recently was in April of this year and I must say everytime I see it I get sad as seeing the decay and breakdown breaks my heart! My best friend Joe (joe4speed dot com) used to live here at Grossingers back in the early to mid 80’s as his father used to work for Servico who was hired to make changes to the complex and tear down some of the buildings. Joe lives in Fla and I here in NH and we have enjoyed our vacation time traveling 5.5 hours one way from NH to Liberty NY just to hang out at Grossingers for a couple of hours and head back. I really wish they would have done something with this place before it became past the point of no return. I will be even more sad the day they tear it all down to make way for the new complex Monticello is planning.
