Artificial Lung

One of two “lungs” connected via underground air tunnels to maintain the pressure gradient inside Biosphere 2. Without these variable expansion chambers, the expansion and contraction of air inside Biosphere 2 would have caused the sealed structure to implode or explode as inside temperatures varied in response to changing conditions outside.
