Cal Ink, a subsidiary of Union Oil Company that started in Los Angeles in 1891, moved its manufacturing plant to West Berkeley in the early 1900s. By the time it closed in 2002, it had become a division of Flint Ink of Michigan, and it was the oldest factory in Berkeley operating at its original location.
