Hall of Silence

The incredible auditorium at Horace Mann High School, which opened in 1928 and closed its doors in 2004. The district’s “platoon system” (a work-study-play program) was internationally recognized, and the school’s auditoriums played a central role in their experiment with progressive education. They were open and actively used all day and students were highly encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities and art.
