The “worshippers” keep watch over the collapsed oil derrick carcass, a 90-foot tall wooden tower built from reused steel and sustainably-grown lumber. According to artists, “Crude Awakening illustrates our so-called modern society replete with our dependence on oil to support our lust for cars, power, products and convenience.”

The previous night, an impressive fireworks display followed by a huge fireball and explosion engulfed the structure in flames shooting hundreds of feet into the air.
