Although the city Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board is seeking historic status for this 100 year old church, it is unlikely to happen because of a 1994 law that exempts churches from landmark status. Then mayor Willie Brown was trying to help religious organizations tear down churches damaged by the 1989 SF earthquake.
The historic church is the only existing work of George Washington Kramer left in California. He was a prominent church designer around the turn of the century.
