Built in 1970 when the lake level was unusually low, the Spiral Jetty has spent most of its life submerged underwater. It was exposed in 2004 before being partially covered again in 2005 due to record-high mountain snow pack melting off in the spring. The lake is currently at a 13-year low due to drought.
