Emblematic of a Genre

The Spiral Jetty, arguably the piece that sparked the Earthworks Movement in 1970. Earthworks (also called Land Art, Earth Art or Environmental Art) are sculptural pieces that integrate physical or conceptual elements of the landscape into the finished art work. They are typically not maintained, instead being left to the whims of Mother Nature.
